Yu in Chiswik area? Yu seek basment? Look no more furthers!

spe·cious  –adjective
1. apparently good or right though lacking real merit; superficially pleasing or plausible
2. pleasing to the eye but deceptive.

So that's probably not a 10 foot celling.
*With thanks to the eagle eye of Mr Fishwife, who has learnt, over the years, that nothing pleases me more than total, nitpicking, pedantry.

You have made me HOOT. I love the idea of a specious basement. Not so difficult to imagine, actually, it being in Chiswick, and all.

This would make me want to go and see this specious basment right away. I've never seen one before.

Expert on specious abodes joins your party with great pleasure, gracious Missus. Thank you for providing a laugh this morning.
Bon weekend - and stay cool (btw love the idea of carrot aroma; used to adore Body Shop's carrot oil ... don't get me started on matters pongy!).

K - MANTUA MAKER, lovey. Take those ginkgo tablets. My personal favourite was "baked potato with a choice of feelings". In the UK...

Blighty - the fone numbre she is right here! Twice!

Mrs T - It's the logical progression from actually having a basement installed, which is all the rage in W4. And specious, well, that's what Chiswick's all about... Thoroughly enjoyed Polpo btw, excellent reccommendation!

Fran - All detail she is here on board. Sadli Mr Landlord is no himself avialabel, yu come see yurself!

Minnie - Demeter Perfume Library do a whole range of unlikely-sounding veg smells at much lower prices than L'Artisan. Carrot, String Bean, Tomato... Highly recommend.

Perhaps it is unfair prejudice but I just cannot date a man who can't spell. Nor would I be able to go and look at rooms to rent if advertised by someone with spelling skills such as these.

I think that "specious" may be a hybrid of the terms "special" and "spacious." He clearly didn't have enough space on the board to include both those adjectives.

Lulu, I LOVE this. Only thing is - can't really imagine the basement being very pleasing to the eye if it's anything like the sign. AND, another thing, I thought that everyone could spell in Chiswick. Just goes to show. I have just been crying with laughter when I shouldn't have been. xxxx

Laura - Yes, it is a definite dealbreaker. Although the pedant in me looks forward to a lifetime of sighing aggrievedly and saying "I before E except after C, idiot". (PS Mr Fishwife can spell).

Pilgrimchick - Yes, and thank goodness he didn't confuse the issue by saying "spatial" instead...

Cass Lass - Chiswick is famous for being specious, obv, and for having a Baby Gap but no Gap, and for having a billion estate agents and bijou shops full of ecologically sound and astronomically-priced handbags, but NOWHERE YOU CAN BUY SOCKS. Thank God for the proximity of Westfield, a Mecca for the grumpy normal shopper.
